What to expect

Sex therapy is a specialised form of therapy that aims to help individuals and couples address issues related to sex, sexuality and intimacy. The therapeutic journey often involves exploring contributing factors such as physical and mental health, as well as cultural and social experiences that impact our ways of being with sex. So, often sex therapy can feel a lot like regular therapy.

I use a comprehensive, holistic and flexible approach to therapy. This involves encouraging clients to explore their values, meaning, motivations and purpose in life, while also cultivating self-compassion, resilience, and deep connection. By emphasising personal responsibility, mindfulness, and goal setting, my approach is about empowering clients to take an active role in their own healing process. Through a collaborative and strengths-based approach, clients can identify and challenge negative thought patterns, develop practical solutions, and achieve their desired outcomes in a supportive and compassionate environment.

I would encourage you to also read my Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

Is this service right for you?

Clients tend to get the most out of sex therapy when they approach sessions with an open mind, and are ready to increase their self-knowledge and self-awareness. Achieving sexual fulfilment is not necessarily about knowing how to perform all the sexual positions, but about knowing how to connect with yourself and others in meaningful ways. So, if you are only after tips and tricks, sex therapy may not be for you.

Sessions

Sessions may be conducted online or in-person and involve discussing the issue of concern, exploring psychological, emotional and physical experiences that may be influencing the concern, sexuality education and negotiating ways to help reach desired outcomes.

Sex therapy can be quite brief! Some barriers, once identified, can be easily shifted, resulting in dramatic transformation. Sometimes, it can take a while to identify and work through barriers, but transformation is still possible. Either way, each counselling experience is individually tailored to support the client in the most beneficial way possible.

If you have more questions about what sex therapy involves, my blog post what is sex therapy? goes into more detail.
